The TSS Visa 482 (Temporary Skills Shortage) Visa is the standard option for individuals choosing to work in Australia on a temporary base (up to four years). Looking at pathways to move from sponsorship on the TSS 482 to PR. It’s not an easy process at all.
The Three Streams of the TSS Visa
The TSS visa has three streams – the medium-term stream, the short-term stream, and the labor agreement stream.
The medium-term stream is only open for sponsored workers with occupations listed on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL).
If your occupation is not listed but does appear on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), then you may only obtain a short-term stream TSS Visa.
Medium-Term TSS 482 Visa
The medium-term TSS visa is:
✅ granted for up to four years.
✅ onshore visa renewals (not limited to one)
✅ Pathway to Australia PR after 3 years.
Note: This stream is relatively similar to the previous 457 visa.
Regional TSS visa to PR (Permanent Residency)
Pathway to permanent residency if you only:
• Current your occupation is on the Regional Occupation list and should work in a designated regional area only
• You should have worked in the same occupation and for the same employer for 3 years.
• English Language Proficiency (IELTS 6 in each band or equivalent)- exemptions apply
• Age must be under 45 years.
Convert TSS 482 to PR Australia
The Medium-Term TSS visa holders must be working with the same employer for the last 3 years might be eligible to apply for Australian PR through the Transitional (TRT) Stream. Based on the regional area, TSS visa Holders will have two options for apply either 186 ENS (Employer Nominated Scheme) or 187 RSMS (Regional Employer Sponsored Scheme.
The employer ready to sponsor the employee for PR under the Temporary Residence Transition stream and lodge a visa nomination application with the Department of Home Affairs.
In order to be eligible for the TSS visa (Long Term Stream) applicants must meet the following criteria:
✅ The occupation must be listed on the Medium and Long-Term Considered Skills List.
✅ Must have two years of related fieldwork experience.
✅ For TSS Visa each occupation still has a minimum of three- or five-year work experience requirements.
✅ Candidates must be paid at the minimum salary for the position.
✅ Police Verification compulsory.
